I’m using a Mac and wondering what application I should use for email. Can you help?
I would recommend using the built-in Apple Mail application that comes with Mac OS.
Here are some advantages to using Apple Mail:
- It connects to any mail source…and multiple sources. Gmail, Exchange server, IMAP, etc. all from one place.
- Using the built in Mail app is free and you already have it in your Applications folder.
- It will give you the most consistent mail reading experience across all your devices. It is very similar to Mail on the iPhone, iPad, and the web/iCloud.
- Mail integrates directly with your built-in Contacts and iCal…keeping those things synchronized across all your devices.
- Mail integrates with other applications. For example, if you click on a button to send an email to a contact from FileMaker, it can send it for you. External applications can not access a web browser-based email client like Gmail.
Apple has tips here for how to set it up for your particular configuration. Most internet email services also have instructions on their own sites for how to set up their service with Apple Mail as well.
