Apple Watch

I’ve been living with the Apple Watch attached to my wrist for a few months. It taps me to demand my attention and it tells me frequently that I don’t get enough activity. It is the first thing I put on when I wake up and last thing I disengage with before sleep. I wear an Apple Watch and I love it even though it doesn’t help me pronounce “aluminum” like Jony Ive.

The Apple Watch it is Apple’s first shot at a wearable. When I ordered it, I figured I would enjoy it as an extension of my beloved iPhone, but I didn’t even consider the magnitude of constant background interaction that I have with this device on a daily basis. The simple casual gesture of checking the time is now a frequent glance at notifications, quick weather check, a look at my activity levels and daily goals. It is a constant stream of data that I don’t need but I sure like having.

Since I’m a developer, I needed the Apple Watch for work, but there are many other ways to rationalize the purchase:

• “It will help me stay active and fit.”
• “I won’t ever be late to another meeting with something tapping me on the wrist.”
• “I’ll have a watch that is both stylish and technologically functional.”

The Apple watch is practical in many ways, of course, but many of us love the idea of having something out of a Sci-Fi movie strapped to our wrists.

I am ecstatic to see what Apple brings to the Apple Watch next, and I love seeing what innovations developers have already made with a new platform. WatchOS is Apple’s first operating system out side of iOS and OS X that allows developers to develop custom apps and more recently they have released tvOS. WatchOS 1 allowed the user to look at data from apps run on the iPhone. Now with WatchOS 2 we are able to run apps natively for quicker response time and a better overall user engagement experience.
