We were saddened to hear today that FirstTech Computers is going out of business after 37 years of servicing the Apple market. To their surprise, employees found out yesterday that they will be closing its doors at the end of the month.firsttech_closing

This was reported in articles by the Star Tribune and St. Paul Pioneer Press as well as on FirstTech’s web site as of this morning. City Pages recently took a look back at FirstTech’s 35 year history. KARE11 TV also did a story about the closing.

As a former employee and FirstTech’s primary FileMaker developer for several years, I’m grateful for the leadership shown at FirstTech. We could always depend on the FirstTech service team to take care of our computers…long before Apple went into the service business itself with the retail stores. It is the end of an era for an amazing company that made a huge impact in the Twin Cities area.

We purchased our first Apple II computer from FirstTech/Team Electronics in 1979 and that started out our career in the computer industry and a primary focus on working with Macintosh and Apple systems.

Thank you FirstTech for the investments that you made in the Apple community and the vision that you had so many years ago to start out with a virtually unknown player in the computer industry…Apple.firsttech_rochester_store

I’m sure many will have fond memories of FirstTech and discussion about this turn of events at the Macintosh 30th Birthday Party at the end of this month.
