A major worldwide archeological organization engaged LuminFire’s expertise to evaluate several of their existing FileMaker solutions and their hosting infrastructure along with an extremely urgent and highly-visible project under high-pressure and time-sensitive conditions.
The immediate need was to support a large archeological dig that was already underway in the Middle East. Without the capability to reliably track and record all their findings, they were spending countless hours manually fixing data conflicts. After evaluating the existing solution, LuminFire determined that rebuilding a custom solution from scratch would be faster than trying to get their existing solution working, and a custom build would give them exactly what they needed.
LuminFire took on the challenge and got the project back on track by creating a full Apple iPad mobile solution, built with Claris FileMaker, within just two weeks. Working under extreme deadlines, LuminFire designed, built, tested, and delivered working software to the other side of the world in record time.
The final solution included the following key features:
- Data collection using multiple ruggedized field iPads with no access to internet or Wi-Fi connections.
- Collected data consolidated daily into a master database.
- Stored photos with an included drawing/notation module.
- Maps with geolocation (latitude and longitude).
Not only did the solution work exactly as both the home base and the in-the field teams needed, but it was also elegant and easy to use.
The successful delivery of this custom software solution by LuminFire saved a major project that was dangerously close to failure. Following this success, LuminFire also delivered a Solution Check Up, an evaluation of their remaining FileMaker solutions, offering clear recommendations for their future success. Luminfire also reviewed their AWS account and identified significant cost savings due to over- provisioning of instances.
